Eating Order Resistance Collective:

Coming Together and Inciting Change

Welcome to our website!

We stand in solidarity with all individuals and communities affected by eating orders and the societal structures that perpetuate them. Our collective is dedicated to dismantling oppressive ideologies and practices around food, movement, bodies, and health.

We encourage community dialogue and have created many spaces for you to share your stories. Please ensure that all submissions coincide with what we embrace and resist.

What do we embrace?

  • Futures where joyful and fulfilling relationships with our bodies and food are commonplace and accessible to diverse groups of people

  • Coalition, community care and healing, mutual aid, care webs

  • Non-eugenic, ableist, and sanist paradigms for healing and well-being

  • Diversity amongst communities - working with and across difference

  • Food, movement, and body diversity

  • Autonomy, consent and decolonization

  • A fat-liberationist commitment to cross-movement solidarity

  • Resistance, story-telling, and community building through art

  • Bodily autonomy and medical consent

  • Centering lived-experience and non-traditional academic ways of knowledge-making and sharing

  • Accessible, affirmative, and non-oppressive (health) care for all

  • The inevitability of harm, messiness, grief, imperfection while living within and resisting the current world order

  • Reflexivity around our social locations and access to power

  • Ongoing collective accountability, dynamic growth, and expansion

  • Freedom from all that we are working together to resist and spaces for us to dream together and imagine different futures

What do we resist?

  • Eating orders - there is no one right way to eat

  • Pathologizing individuals and locating eating dis/orders exclusively at the site of the individual

  • Anti-fatness, sanism, white supremacy, (settler) colonialism, anti-Black racism, cisheterosexism, patriarchy, ableism, global racial capitalism, compulsory neurotypicality, eugenic paradigms for healing and well-being, and all intersecting modes of oppression as they relate to eating orders and beyond

  • Diet culture

  • Epistemic injustice and valuing traditional academic research over lived experience and other ways of knowing

  • Food colonialism, imperialism, racism and the upholding of whiteness as the “good food’ standard

  • Starvation as a weapon of war and genocide

  • Expertise over others’ bodies

  • Healthism and psychocentrism

  • Language surrounding “non-compliance” with psychocentric care

  • Coercion into plastic and bariatric surgeries

  • In some critical spaces, people are afraid to admit that they access medical, psychological or psychiatric treatment because some people/movements demonize those who seek these kinds of care. Our collective resists such totalizing demands and demonization, and instead honours the diversity of choices people make.

We believe in affirming the diverse ways people nourish themselves and reject any form of oppression that dictates otherwise. We stand with all those who are marginalized and impacted by systemic injustices in food and body politics. Together, we strive for a future where all bodies are valued and desired, and all forms of nourishment are honored.

We collectively embrace and resist through community, revolting, reimagining and co-creating towards a future free from eating orders. Our collective embraces diversities and resists reductionisms AND we come together in our shared desires and incitements for change.

This collective inciting is continuously under construction and revision. Please feel free to reach out with feedback.

In Solidarity,
