About the event

We are organizing our coffee-table storybook around the theme of “objects”: social artifacts. We have already gathered stories like The Apple, The Table, The Skinny Jeans, The Elephant, The Airplane Bathroom and more. The Apple is Kalia’s (pseudonym for confidentiality) story of how her My Fitness Pal diet app went red when she input that she was going to eat an apple, telling her that if she eats the apple, she will go over her daily sugar limit. The Table is Meredith’s (pseudonym) story of being force-fed during her eating disorder treatment via a ‘rule’ that dictated no patient was allowed to leave the table until everyone finished all of their food, lasting 8 hours on one occasion. We are continuing to gather eating order object-oriented stories, especially those of eating order resistance and we welcome you to inquire with us about submitting yours!  Our book will bring together a collection of approximately 30 one-page stories that will be accompanied by a 3-page commentary informed by a different community-movement-meets-critical-academic-discipline, such as critical eating disorder studies, mad studies, fat studies, disability studies, gender studies, critical race theory, and others. We are inspired to share a diverse collection of eating order and eating order resistance stories while making a wide range of critical commentaries accessibly available to the public. We are welcoming critical commentary contributors to inquire with us about getting involved in our collective book project.
